Walking Tour
As we walked the pathway through the Tongass National Forest, we came across many beautiful types of vegetation; the Tongass National Forest is the largest national forest the USA. Home to many species of wildlife, we came across banana slugs, eagles, and bear tracks.
The animal life isn’t the only excitement from our journey, the plant life was just as amazing. We saw a “pregnant” tree as our tour guide teased, amazing nursery trees, several types of berries, and wispy hanging moss.
My favorite was a group of cool fungi mushrooms growing off a fallen tree. This particular group of mushrooms had tiny droplets of water hanging off of them.
When our path came to where the river was, we could see the brackish flow, and swampy lowlands. Here, we saw more paw prints from bears in the area, and when we looked closely, we could see some of the fish swimming upstream. Our tour was about a week ahead of the huge salmon migration, but we were still able to see early arrivals. The eagles, were already making their spots ready for when the mass of fish arrived.
