Manatees

Manatees

Holding hands!

Dolphin Discovery is located in Chankanaab Park, approximately 15-20 minute drive south from the city of Cozumel.  With Dolphin Discovery, you can swim with three manatees who will eat any food you offer from your hand! Though it is a small space for three large animals, they do have room to swim and move around. You may be lucky and have a private swim with these amazing mammals, but know that you may be grouped with others.

The Manatee are housed in an enclosed pen in the ocean. Walking down the steps to the platform, the manatee were waiting for me, ready for their treats. I was met by the animal’s trainer who educated me about the animals threaten status, physical attributes, and daily life. While the guide was talking,  I was handed pieces of cantaloupe to give each animal. All of my questions were answered, as each of the manatees was trying to snag a bite. One manatee even tried to climb up my leg while mooching for another treat!!

Showing off his amazing skills.

During my experience, I had time to feed, swim, kiss, and pet these beautiful creatures while posing for pictures that became a treasured keepsake. After all of the treats were munched by the manatees, it was time to say bye, climb out, and view the images taken by the photographer. Individual images or different packages may be chosen for purchase.

Time with the manatees will cost you $59 per person for approximately 45 minutes. The cost may vary depending on the company through which you purchase tickets. The costs of pictures or other items are additional. The photo price depends on the package chosen.  The most expensive being $70.

If you decide to swim with the manatee or other animals at the facility, arrive at Dolphin Discovery a minimum of 15 minutes before your scheduled time.

Chankanaab Park includes showers, lockers, restrooms, food, and many other activities. It is a wonderful place to snorkel. They have beaches, water toys, dolphins, seals, and shops. Once in the park, cash is only needed for food or souvenirs.

A sweet kiss from a gentle and magical animal.
