San Pietro in Vincoli

Once entered, this church is wide open for your imagination.

Within this church lies one of the many masterful statues created by Michelangelo; Moses. This statue depicts the time when Moses came down from the mountain with the 10 commandments. This beautiful monument is the unfinished tomb of Pope Julius II. If you would like to get striking images of this statue, a coin may be required to turn on the lights. Since this is a popular sculpture, there may be a small or large crowd depending on when you visit.

The statue of Moses keeps a watch over the crowd of people.

Also within these walls are the relic chains that once imprisoned St. Peter. He had been locked away in Rome and Jerusalem. When these chain links were placed near one another, it had been said that they fused themselves into a single chain. This church also contains some beautiful frescos, some from the 15th century.

Entry is free. Money is used to buy anything in the shop, or to light up the artwork.

These chains have traveled far from the Holy Land.
