Tenuta Torciano San Gimignano
For a real travel gem, visit the Tenuta Torciano vineyard and tasting room. This family owned and run company of wine and olive oil is a true treat. They only sell to the private market. So, unless you know someone who has some, or you have your own, this is the only way to taste these delights. To get here, drive approximately fifteen minutes from the town of San Gimignamo onto the vast lands of grape vines. While driving here, you can get a wonderful picture of the whole city and remaining towers. Once you have arrived at Tenuta Torciano, walk inside one of the guest rooms where you will be welcomed by a member of the family and introduced to their passion for wine.
The family will teach you the correct way to experience wine tasting, from holding the glass correctly to allowing the wine to breathe, and even learning how to experience the fullness of the grape from a single sip. They help you learn how to embrace each of the settle flavors within each of the drinks! Some of them you wouldn’t have ever guessed was there if you weren’t sure how to really taste the wine.
You will be given the opportunity to sample several different types of red and white wine, snack on some cheese and crackers, and enjoy the company of others who share this experience with you, and then the tasting continues. If there is enough time, you could sample five to seven, or more different flavors!
The second half of your visit here is with different samples of olive oils. They make their extra virgin olive oil, peperoncino hot pepper oil, truffle oil, and balsamic vinegar from Modena. Sample all of these with some bread, and know that all of this can be ordered and shipped home. These oils are very special and unique. Nothing from the grocery store comes close to these! The beautifully blended flavors within these are a true experience, and are well worth sampling!!
If you would like to book a wine tasting, you can go with a tour group where this is included, or you can make a reservation on their website under Tastings. Each session lasts 120 minutes, and is 22 Euro per person.

The company does so much more other than wine tasting such as Fall Truffle Hunting, cooking classes, lunch or dinners, tours and so much more. It would be hard to find anything that you wouldn’t want to experience! Even if you cannot take a cooking class from them, they have also placed some of their recipes on their site for anyone to experience.
*special note: The USA can receive a shipment of wine and oils from this company. Due to liquor laws, Utah is the only state from which residents cannot order wines. But even Utahans can order the olive oils.*
