Lahaina

Lahaina

This old city use to be one of the most important hubs where whale hunters would bring their catch. The whalers would then proceed to harvest the precious oil, make beautiful carvings from their bones, and leave the harbor bloody. Sharks and other predators would come and have a feast!

Times have changed, and the city no longer brings in these beautiful animals for harvest. Now, the animals and harbor have become a beautiful meeting point where the two worlds collide. The city has exciting shops, and are filled with many goodies. Here, silly souvenirs can be purchased to take home, historical sites can be visited, and ice cream can be enjoyed during the hottest part of the day. The largest tree on the island is here spreading its vines and roots to continue growing.

Do you have someone back home that only wished for a pineapple to be brought back? Don’t worry! Among these shops, you will find shop keepers that will come to your aid. Choose how many pineapples you desired, let them know where you are staying, as well as when you are leaving. Just as you think about the flight tomorrow, pineapples show up ready to travel home!

Many of the ships that leave for fishing tours, whale seeing tours, or dive/snorkel tours leave from here as well. Some companies may have a different location where they launch, but most are here. They will compete for your business too.

For those who like to find more, high-end, treats to take home, well they can be found here too. The main street has beautiful glass stores and jewelry, as well as the unique art of scrimshaw can be found. This unique art must take some patients and concentration to carve such intricate pieces into bone or shell!

Lahaina is also the main center where restaurants are located. I suggest prior to thinking about food, plan and give a call to a several interesting places. Many of these locations are very busy so reservations are highly recommended.
