Palatine Hill / Roman Forum
This hill overlooks much of Rome, as well as delivers a spectacular view. The massive structures on this hilltop were built the same time the Colosseum was created during the Flavian reign. Although this begins to paint a picture of this area, the land was one of the hills used with the early paleo settlers. It may have been where the famous Romulus and Remus had grown up. Today, the ruins of a massive palace complex lies. It house many ware houses for storage, workshops, temples, fountains, and a residence. Below all of this, you will find the Roman Forum.
While walking down from the hill into the Roman Forum, discover yourself walking back to a time prior to any city of Rome, and lasted until Rome fell. This was once area of the Etruscan people. The area that is now the forum was “no man’s land” for these ancient people. They fought with others in the area, but this ground was neutral. They could come here, pray to their gods, buy food from the local stalls, and go back home without the threat of being killed. As ages advanced, this area grew rapidly. Now find the ruins of several temples, court house, location where Julius Caesar had been burned after death, and much more.
Entry to see Palatine Hill and the Roman Forum are covered in the admission ticket to the Colosseum.
