Peristyle of the Diocletian Palace

After walking up the stairs from the cellar, this is the view.
One of the Egyptians treasures the Romans enjoyed.

At the intersection of two main streets in Split, this area is at the crossroads of the Cathedral of St. Domnius, and Diocletian’s mausoleum. It contains one of the sphinxes right outside as you come walking up the stairs from the cellars.

Back when Diocletian still lived, this gave him access to the mausoleum, and the three temples that were once here. Of the three temples, only one remain. However, this main pathway is a great start to understand how vast this area is. It also gives a scope of the money the emperor once had in order to create such a massive fort.
