Tulip Museum
One of the top things that most people think about when The Netherlands is mentioned includes tulips. This beautiful and hardy bulb and flower became such a precious mark of social status, people even began to take out second mortgages on their homes. However, the flower market crashed, and people lost everything! Today, these flowers don’t control the economic market, however they still draw tourist each year.
This small museum is full of surprises. It talks about the history, rise, fall, and resurgence of the tulip. Enter into this small old home, and be surrounded by tulip bulbs. As you weave your way back, head downstairs to enter the rest of the museum. Learn through a movies about where these plants are from, how they are handled, and the tools used in the past. It is a small location, but packed with so many useful facts. There is a logbook to sign, and you can even sign up to get a tulip catalogue sent to your homes so that you can order these flowers to plant in your garden.
Although you can purchase tulips at the museum, you are also able to purchase them throughout the city, even in the airport, depending on where you live it may be better to order through the catalog. Also, be sure to note that when you purchase any bulb to take home, that it has the green “certification” sticker. If the sticker isn’t there, it will be taken away from you as it will not pass through customs. Those that are sold in their airports, most of them are accepted.
Entry into the museum will cost you 5 Euro, with a student rate of 3 Euro (you may need to show your student ID). If traveling here as a family, it will cost 10 Euro. The I Amsterdam City Card is valid here.
