Circus Maximus
The old movie, as well as the new release, of Ben Hur has a really epic chariot race. The race was a real event in the ancient times, and it was held at the Circus Maximus. Although very little of this grand race track has survived the ages, archaeologists are working on the site right now. They are busy uncovering more secrets, and making this a more exciting location to visit.
It is amazing to be able to walk along the raised spine and center area within this race track and in vision what it was like standing among the crowd. High above the hill top lies Palatine Hill. This arena once held over 250,000 spectators (more people than the Colosseum) who were eager to see their winning horse team run seven laps around to see the final win. The roars from the crowd must have been exciting.
