Although construction for this Basilica initiated in 1549, it continued to be worked on for a century adding different styles, designs, and artwork. In 1590 the dome was completed, and 1606 portals were included. Today, it is one of the beautiful masterpieces of the city. The intricate carvings on the outside of the church are extremely unique, and each critter or expression is different from others; the detail is really beautiful too.

Once inside, the amazing artwork continues. Though the walls may at first glance, appear plain, the whole space is covered in carvings. This church has a Baroque essence of simplicity until you view the interior space in greater detail. The paintings inside demonstrate the masterful skills of the artists and draw you closer to view each piece in detail.
